THE WARMEST WINTER
Autumn 1985, Cambridge MA
Summer is over, my friend
It'll be a long time before it comes around again
Old Man Winter is around the bend
You better take your sweater from the closet shelf
You'll thank yourself come November
I remember last July: fireworks lit up the sky
And on that August beach, two hearts were within reach and now
Old Man Winter is around the bend
Oh, how I hate to see my Summer come to an end
It's really not so bad; there's better things ahead
I'd rather hibernate it through
Oh and in the Spring we can make some dreams come true!
Summer is gone now, dear
And I've been told it's incredibly cold up here
Wrap that scarf about your ears
I'm gonna get my Long Johns, put 'em on
And hope they last me through February
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
It's so good to know you'll always be near
Oh, I could never, ever forget
All those stars were out that night we met
And one October dawn
You slipped a gold ring on, and now
Wrap that scarf about your ears
Here's to the warmest Winter of all my years
