I initially wrote this in the early 90s for a buddy
turning 40. The lyrics were very specific to him,
and hilarious to anyone who knew him.

Another friend hit 50 in 2005, and I crafted a
more generic lyric, performing it to a wildly
appreciative crowd at his party.

OLDER
Summer 2005, Denver CO

I used to love to rock and roll - now it's too loud and I move too slow
I used to party each and every day - now when I party hard I really pay
I'm gettin' older, I'm gettin' older, time rolls on, I been and gone
    I'm gettin' older

There was a time when I was all that - now I spend my time gettin' bald and fat
Back in the day I liked to strut my stuff - these days my sacro-iliac has had enough
I'm gettin' older, I'm gettin' older, time rolls on, I been and gone
    I'm gettin' older

Time rolls on like they say it will - I been and gone, lookin' over the hill
It finally came - the BIG FIVE - O
Someone tell me where in the world does all the energy go?

The hair on my head - don't know where it's gone
But my ears, nose and eyebrows look like my lawn
I used to jam from dusk 'til dawn
Now at nine o'clock I got my jammies on

I'm gettin' older, I'm gettin' older, I'm gettin' older, I'm gettin' older

Time rolls on, I been and gone...
