Me and Dad, sometime between 1985 and 1988.

Sharon and I had just moved from Brooklyn to Raleigh,
and though Dad had passed several years previously,
this particular Father's Day was most difficult.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
Summer 1992, Raleigh NC

Happy Father's Day, even though you won't hear me now
        Happy Father's Day, anyhow...
Happy Father's Day: I will sing it right out loud
        Happy Father's Day, anyhow...

You made me proud to be your son
And it wasn't always easy, and it wasn't always fun
I wonder how we'd have ever gotten by
If it wasn't for the laughter, or the tears we'd sometimes cry

There are times when I sit thinkin' all alone
    In the hours before dawn
I still find myself lookin' at the phone
Wishin' I could just say, "Hi..."

Happy Father's Day, though I know you can't hear me now
        Happy Father's Day, anyhow...
Happy Father's Day: I will sing it right out loud
        Happy Father's Day, anyhow...

You made me strong like a boy into a man
And I know you weren't perfect, but I am your biggest fan
So many songs would have never seen the light
If it were not for your love; all the wrong and all the right

There are times when I sit singin all alone
    In the hours before dawn
I still find myself reachin' for the phone
Wishin' I could just say, "Hi..."

Happy Father's Day, even though you won't hear me now
        Happy Father's Day, anyhow...
Happy Father's Day: I will sing it right out loud
        Happy Father's Day, anyhow...
