A well-publicized California murder mystery
disturbed me deeply, and I was compelled to
write this chilling fantasy, based on the idea
that I have a lover who informs me that she
plans to murder my wife - "for us."
This is about as creepy as it gets.

FREAK
Summer 2004, Denver CO

Night after night I dream the same bad dream
I'm terrified to accept what it might mean
You wear a smile on your face but there's blood on your hands
Screaming myself wide awake I understand
All I wanted was a way that I could be free
All you needed was a way to possess me

There is a darkness about you I once found attractive
I must move on now without you; it's getting too active
Your eyes get narrow that way, and I start to shiver
If looks are arrows, then surely your heart is a quiver
All I wanted was a way that I could be free
All you needed was a way to confine me
What I desire is a love I've lost with my wife
What you require: must it cost her her life?

Get away from me, you freak
    Don't look, don't touch, don't even speak
There ain't a reason not to call a cop on you
Get away from me, you freak
I'll never have the love you seek
I can't imagine what I ever saw in you

I don't care what you call it; it doesn't matter how you feel
Makes no diff'rence, all it amounts to: your sickness is very real
I don't care what you give to me; no longer does it mean a thing
You're just adding insult to injury with this evil news you bring

Get away from me, you freak
    Don't look, don't touch, don't even speak
There ain't a reason not to call a cop on you
Get away from me, you freak
I'll never have the love you seek
I can't imagine what I ever saw in you

Get away from me, you freak...
