I wrote this roughly a year after Mom's death,
and performed it at church on Mother's Day.
There were many tears.

DON'T YOU EVER DOUBT MY LOVE
Spring 2000, Charlotte NC

You raised me, and gave me security
You were both mother and father to me
You praised me, but taught me humility
You gave the best years of your life away
All of the hope within me; all of the light that I see
All of the dreams that made me strong
I am the man I am today because of you
O Mom, you told me all along:

I don't ever want you to doubt my love
It's deep as the sea, and as big as the sky above
And when I think about love, it's you that I'm thinking of
I don't ever want you to doubt my love.

You showed me a God I can believe in
Your sacrifices were not lost on me
I owe you a debt that I'll never even
I'll give the best years of my life away
All of the hope within me; all of the light that I see
All of the dreams that made me strong
I am the man I am today because of you
O Mom, you told me all along:

I don't ever want you to doubt my love
It's deep as the sea, and as big as the sky above
And when I think about love, it's you that I'm thinking of
I don't ever want you to doubt my love.

Today I look at my own little girl
The way I feel must be how you felt for me
        I pray I'll always remember
To say what you said all along...

Today I look at my own little girl
The way I feel must be how you felt for me
        I pray I'll always remember
All of the hope within me; all of the light that I see
All of the dreams I'll pass along...

I don't ever want you to doubt my love
It's deep as the sea, and as big as the sky above
And when I think about love, it's you that I'm thinking of
I don't ever want you to doubt my love.
